We are looking for a Highway Asset Officer (HAO) to join our dynamic team. This role offers the perfect blend of site and office based work along with home-based flexibility, allowing you to balance professional growth with personal well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Pricing: Design and price highway maintenance schemes, including drainage, patching, resurfacing, and footway works
  • Engagement: Engage with contractors and stakeholders to assist in the planning and delivery of highway maintenance schemes.
  • Community Collaboration: Work alongside other Devon County Council teams to understand community needs when planning and delivering highway maintenance schemes.
  • Auditing: Audit highway maintenance schemes including identification and resolution of remedial works.
  • Payment Management: Review, agree, and approve payments for highway maintenance schemes.
  • Policy Application: Apply a working knowledge of appropriate highway policies and procedures and stay updated on technical developments and good working practices.

Team and Work Environment

You’ll be part of a supportive team with responsibility for the ongoing management and maintenance of Devon’s highway assets. Based at either our Newton Abbot or Exeter depots, you will be working with a small, supportive team of highways colleagues covering either East Devon or Teignbridge. You will also have the backing of colleagues from across the County Council, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment and there may be times when you will be required work across other areas of Devon as part of the wider Asset Delivery Team.
