Job Details
Overview of project/role
The Works Technician is responsible for ensuring that the London Trams civils and off-track infrastructure is maintained within established tolerance levels through the systematic inspection and maintenance (planned and preventative) of the assets, documentation of inspections, and recommending and implementing corrective action.
Key Accountabilities
- Undertake civil maintenance activities on and off track in line with defined standards and best practice, within specified timescales.
- Activities to include, but not limited to, maintenance and replacement of paving, highway surfacing, structures, fencing, drainage, concreting and painting.
- Use Ellipse electronic Asset Management system to receive work orders; generate completed work returns including recording resources; and report any new defects along with proposed remediation and timescales.
- Operate relevant mechanical plant and equipment as required and certificated to do so.
- Provide support to the Civil Asset Engineer to enable their delivery of technical work such as surveys, investigations or trial holes.
- Supervise external resources as required where provided to supplement the team during times of shortage or where work and upgrade activities require additional people.
- Responsible for the safety of own work and worksite safety, and that of other team members and undertake other duties such as watch person, worksite supervisor and possession supervisor.
- Collaborate with other front-line discipline teams to provide support where required. Participate in the 1st line on call duties as specified.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Skills
- Ability to forward plan. Accurate reporting and ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work to tight timescales. Adaptable and flexible approach to work, capable of adjusting priorities to react to daily challenges and opportunities in an operational environment.
- Ability to work on your own initiative. Ability to undertake fault finding to determine root causes. Holds full driving licence (essential).
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of NRSWA (desirable). Knowledge of the ROGS regulations and their application to the tramway. Knowledge of safe working and the HASAWA. Knowledge of the principles of tramway / railway safety (desirable).
Experience
- Experience of civil, highway or rail maintenance and/or renewals practice.
- Experience in the recording works completed, faults found and maintenance of records.
- Use of an electronic asset management system (desirable). Familiar with the use of standard Microsoft Office standard packages.
- Experience in maintenance practices of at least one of the following elements: Civils works, highways or drainage.
