About Us
Though we are the third largest borough in London, Havering is not as well-known as it’s Essex and east London neighbours. We are changing that. We have so much planned in Havering for you to get involved in – from improving connectivity to Romford and Rainham, extensive home building and creating integrated and long lasting infrastructure to give our residents and businesses the services they need.
To invest in our borough, we know that we also need to invest in our people. We offer great support and training to get you settled into your role, fantastic benefits and encourage flexible and smart working.
Our offices are a short walk from Romford station which is on the Elizabeth Line to and from London and easily accessible by bus.
About the Job
Here at the London Borough of Havering, we are excited to be growing our Transport Planning team. Over the next few years, we are embarking on a regeneration journey that will transform our borough, create high quality places, connect our towns and bring opportunities for all. Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects are also being delivered in the borough including the Lower Thames Crossing, the biggest planning application in the country.
In this vital leadership role, you will use your transport planning and supervisory skills to support the delivery of regeneration across the borough, to ensure that growth is delivered in line with the Havering Local Plan and the borough’s Transport Strategy.
Your key responsibilities will include delivering transport planning projects and providing policy input into strategic infrastructure projects being delivered across Havering.
You will provide strategic direction and support to members of the transport planning team, supporting delivery of the Council’s highly regarded behaviour change programmes and be responsible for the management of the Council’s well regarded Bikeability programme.
You will work with internal and external stakeholders to support delivery of the Council’s aspirations and ambitions including the emerging Active Travel and Electric Vehicle Charging Point strategies.
You will deputise for the Team Leader, be involved in setting the tactical direction for the transport planning team and monitor performance delivery to achieve both corporate and departmental aims. We will look to you to help ensure all transport planning projects are completed on time and within budget.
About You
To be successful in this role you will need strong transport/spatial planning skills, have experience dealing with Members, be politically astute, and have several years of experience working in the transport planning industry. We will expect you to have a comprehensive understanding of planning and local government legislation and to be informed on the latest developments affecting transport planning and regeneration.
