Sandwell Youth Service are looking for a Youth Bus Driver who has at least 2 years’ experience of driving large vehicles (buses, HGVs etc), with the motivation to meet the aspirations of young people through delivering quality Youth Work via the Sandwell Youth Bus project.
The successful applicant will drive our 2 youth buses around Sandwell and surrounding areas and work with youth teams to deliver services, activities and projects to young people across the borough.
The purpose of youth work is to empower young people aged 11-19 years (up to 25 years with additional needs) to act on the social, political and cultural issues which affect their lives. The aim of all youth work is to provide opportunities for young people, both individually and collectively, to make informed choices regarding the issues that govern their lives.
The work also involves developing relationships with young people, providing mechanisms for young people to further develop relationships with other young people and, where appropriate, adults.
About the role:
- Driving the Youth Buses to designated areas around Sandwell and surrounding areas and any other vehicle covered by Cat D and D1 drivers licence or a PCV licence as requested.
- Assisting service users in boarding and alighting from the vehicle, including lifting in and out of wheelchairs.
- Reporting any defects and exercise a drivers’ responsibility for ensuring that the vehicle is safe and roadworthy.
- Operating equipment such as welfare lifts, safety restraints, two-way radios and youth bus equipment such as laptop computers, games consoles etc.
- Working with the youth work teams to deliver sessions held on the Youth Bus and establish an ongoing rapport with service users.
Role requirements:
- Clean Category D and D1 Licence or PCV licence, free of any unspent endorsements.
- Previous experience of working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity and/or other experience relating to young people.
- The successful candidate will complete and enhanced DBS check and KCSIE check.

PLEASE NOTE – Following on from interviews, the post will only be offered subject to the successful candidate passing a practical driving assessment on one of the Youth Bus vehicles.
Hours: 18.5 hours per week – flexible working required including evenings and some weekend working.
