Job Details

The Royal Borough of Greenwich is looking for dedicated, forward thinking, and experienced Environmental Health Officers to work within the Private Rented Property Licensing Team, part of the Council's Community Safety & Environmental Health Division. Our mission is very much about ensuring that people in Greenwich have access to safe and secure housing that meets their needs, whilst striving to be the 'best or better' in the services we deliver each and every day.

A key aspect of this role will be a focus on the licensing of private rented properties, and post holders will demonstrate best practice and high productivity in their area of responsibility.

You can expect to be carrying out onsite inspection work for a range of property types, specialising in more complex / higher risk properties, completing dynamic risk assessments, and offering support and advice to tenants and landlords. Routine compliance visits will include Houses in Multiple Occupation, and properties that require Selective licenses. There will also be associated enforcement work and checking application documents and draft licences.

As a knowledgeable and experienced Lead Environmental Health Officer you will lead in a specific area licensing / enforcement work, and will support managers and senior colleagues in training staff, building skills, refining inspection processes and adopting best practice.  You will also provide advice, guidance and support to less experienced colleagues.

You will be a confident communicator who is able to work equally well in a team and independently. We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants with experience of working with private sector housing, similar regulatory compliance-based processes, or a regulatory enforcement background with experience in a local authority setting.

The successful candidate will be eligible to take part in the Council's flexible working arrangements, and hybrid working to help you achieve a good work/life balance, including a 35-hour working week.

Applicants are advised to pay special attention to the supporting statement, and to refer to the person specification in the Job Description when completing this.
