This is an exciting opportunity to join a service that has a direct influence on the way people live and work around Brighton & Hove. We are one of the busiest unitary Authorities outside London and this role will be central to managing traffic control schemes within the city.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Traffic Engineer focusing on ensuring the city’s regulation signage and Traffic Regulation orders enables residents and visitors move around the city in a controlled and safe way and that Brighton and Hove City Council can meet their statutory responsibilities.

This role is available as a secondment to internal applicants in line with our secondment policy.

About the role

We would love you to bring your skills, knowledge, and experience to:

  • Ensure that the council is meeting its duties and responsibilities in regard to regulation and directional signage across the city
  • Provide project support/lead for minor projects to improve traffic management
  • Support TRO drafting and implementation
  • Work across City Transport supporting colleagues with sign design ensuring it meets the guidance in TSRGD
  • To direct and implement the Traffic Management Strategy to ensure that traffic movement is managed as efficiently as possible.
  • Work with contractors and designers to create a safer place for the residents and visitors to Brighton and Hove, whilst achieving the City’s aspiration of achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2030.
