We have exciting opportunities to be part of the Permit Team within Sheffield Highway Network Management Team.

We are looking for skilled, enthusiastic, proactive individuals with excellent communication skills who have a good understanding of the challenges faced with works on the highway and the proven ability to manage and maintain professional relationships will all types of internal and external stakeholders.

This could range from colleagues, Service Managers, Councillors to contractors, developers and members of the public.

Successful applicants will help to control the activities of utility companies and others who wish to work on the public highway, by application of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991,

Traffic Management Act 2004 and Sheffield Permit Scheme in order to reduce disruption to the public highway to enable the Council to fulfil its network management duty.

You will assist in the maintenance of the Council’s computerised Street Works Register, you will deal with Permit applications by liaison with utility company, Council Contractor’s staff and of the Highway Network Management Team and dealing with all duties under the relevant statutory legislation ensuring all information is collated and produced in a timely manner.

We have three vacancies within the team, 2 Permit Engineer’s and 1 Permit Technician.

The posts will be mainly hybrid based, but the person appointed will be expected to participate in all aspects of the work of the Highway Network Management Team.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
