We have 4 Local Highways teams covering North, South, East and West of Lincolnshire and have a new position in our SOUTH team for a Principal Highways Officer. Our South area includes Boston, Spalding, and Bourne, meaning you'll be working in these locations and the surrounding areas.
Lincolnshire County Council is an ambitious and progressive organisation that strives to provide a modern and responsive public service to the residents of Lincolnshire.
Our highways infrastructure is seen as high priority by our elected members, as it supports the local economy, provides access to jobs and services, and enables thousands of visitors to experience our beautiful coast and countryside.
Our Local Highways teams are at the front line of ensuring that the highway network is safe with inspections and safety repairs as well as responding to reports made by the public. They deal with issues ranging from potholes, vegetation, road markings and sign repairs through to drainage, reacting to weather events, emergency planning and badgers!
A typical week for a Principal Highways Officer might consist of:
- Meeting with your whole team monthly at a local office for an in-person team meeting.
- Weekly virtual meetings with your team and with the contractor in relation to different work streams.
- Meeting elected members and the general public on site.
- Meeting your team on site to coach and mentor through situations and unexpected issues.
- Virtual and in-person attendance across the County for internal and external working groups.
You will need excellent customer service skills so that you can resolve issues for the communities that we work for, self-motivation and excellent negotiation skills with a problem-solving mind.
You are organised, efficient, a natural leader with good negotiation skills and the experience and knowledge to make a big difference to your team, your manager and the people of Lincolnshire.
We recognise that individual needs differ and you will be supported to achieve the best mix for yourself to achieve agreed outcomes, and we closely monitor individuals’ workloads and progress, to ensure a work life balance is achieved.
We have a flexible approach to working patterns and will base you at the office nearest your home location to avoid unnecessary travel, but you will need a valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle to enable you to be mobile across the County. We also work remotely and hold a lot of meetings virtually.
This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with your Local Highways Manager to manage your team in delivering the reactive highway service with a particular focus on improving our response to those affected by drainage and flooding issues, working with internal teams and external stakeholders to make sure those affected are getting the best possible response and service.
