Here at Blackburn with Darwen Council our size is our strength, working for a small Borough means your interaction with other members of our leadership teams and other services are more accessible. We strive to keep abreast of new developments but always maintain a person-centred perspective to our working arrangements. As our employee we want to provide you with a better work life balance with flexible and agile working arrangements.
Our vision is to develop and retain high performing, motivated teams and to ensure that our offer of continuous professional development makes Blackburn with Darwen an attractive place for people to work.
Reporting directly to the Head of Environment, the purpose of the role is to proactively lead the Highway Maintenance service, ensuring a customer centric approach is embedded through all its operations. In doing so, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to programmes of planned work, that is co-ordinated and delivered on time and to budget, in addition, to making sure that the highway is safe, useable and maintained to council requirements and policies, taking into account local priorities.
In our Environment and Community Services, we are seeking candidates with strong experience, knowledge and a proven track record of management and leadership within Highways Operations. You will have a depth of experience and knowledge across the day-to-day management of the Highways Service, which would include in-house operational staff and supervisors, contract management, including external contractors, the provision of strategic direction on all aspects of highway maintenance, working closely with Asset & Network Management colleagues and ensuring the safe, cost effective and efficient delivery of service.
You must be self-motivated and able to work independently and with initiative, prioritising workloads, managing delegated budgets and meeting deadlines.
