About The Service
The Resources Directorate is responsible for a wide range of corporate services, serving the whole council, and plays a vital role in supporting the operational Directorates in the delivery of their services.
Central Transport Services (CTS) is based within the Resources Directorate and a fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, motivated individual to play a key role in delivering continuous improvement within the Service, based at our ‘state of the art’ facility at Coleridge Road, Grangetown, Cardiff.
You will share responsibility with another Service Manager for the day-to-day management of our three workshops, the Fabrication Unit, and our Wash Facilities, supported by the Workshop and Compliance Manager.
About the job
The successful candidate will:
• effectively and continuously manage the workshop operations to ensure full compliance with all relevant transport legislation and council policies covering the maintenance of the Council’s fleet;
• ensure the services the workshop provides meets objectives, targets and quality standards achieving high levels of customer service and satisfaction;
• help manage the relationship between CTS and the DVSA, in particular the MOT test area, and
• working with the Operational Manager and the Workshop and Compliance Manager, develop new commercial business opportunities for CTS.
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful candidate will have, in particular:
• City & Guilds motor repair LGV or Light commercial vehicles L3 or above;
• experience in managing a busy workshop or transport operation;
• experience in developing effective working relationships to encourage respect, trust and confidence;
• experience in effectively managing and monitoring performance and setting clear objectives for the review of individual and service level performance;
• ability to exercise visible and supportive leadership, which empowers, enables and develops staff to achieve results;
• effective communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of employees, including management and outside agencies, and
• strong commitment to excellence in service delivery and customer satisfaction.
