The Council is seeking to Develop a cultural strategy and strategic partnerships with independent cultural institutions to revitalise our communities, create new and improved visitor destinations and secure additional external funding to sustain the sector. The cultural strategy will illustrate the role that culture and the institutions of culture (our museums, libraries, festivals etc) can contribute toward the improved physical and mental health and wellbeing of our communities and help to direct investment where it is most needed and will be most impactful.
This is a strategic leadership role, overseeing the shaping and delivery of the Cultural offer within Westmorland and Furness, drawing in external funding, and reshaping our cultural grants programme to ensure it is fair and equitable and commissioned in line with our Council plan priorities.
Working with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Assistant Director of Community Infrastructure, Interim Head of Cultural Services, the Portfolio Holder(s), Locality Boards, Senior Managers, service leaders, the project management office, and Trade Union colleagues, the successful candidate will develop business cases and strategies to shape how the services will delivered by the Council, in line with the vision and objectives of the Council Plan. This will be influenced through engagement with existing and new partners, including those from the private, public and voluntary sector and listening to our existing customers and communities. Cross directorate working with the likes of asset management, public health, library and archives, adults and children’s services, safer stronger communities, planning, legal and finance will be critical in shaping how services will be delivered in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner.
