National Highways have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Traffic signals engineer to join our team in the Midlands region. The Senior Engineer will drive and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification of traffic signals asset specific needs and development of early solutions, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards.

 

You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full driving licence, with no more than 3 points, to be considered for this position.  

This role can be based from our Birmingham or Nottingham office. 

 

What you’ll be leading on: 

  • Ensuring the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity. 
  • Driving and coordinating the activities and resources involved in the identification and evaluation of asset data and needs in order to develop early solutions, in line with agreed methodologies and prioritisation criteria. 
  • Leading the development of early solutions for improvements and/or renewals, including the compiling and checking of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs. 
  • Monitoring the delivery of agreed early solutions and plans, liaising with the relevant teams to identify and/or rectify issues. 
  • Ensuring that asset data and condition information is captured and maintained in the relevant database(s), in line with agreed standards and timescales.
  • Developing the technical briefs provided to the design and construction contractor for improvement and renewals work.
  • Providing technical support to Project Managers by assisting with materials approvals, vetting of contractors’ compliance, inspection support on site, and reviewing health and safety files.
  • Undertaking Factory Acceptance tests, Site acceptance tests and MOVA validation.
  • Providing technical support to Service Delivery maintenance contractors both internal and external including fault analysis.
  • Undertaking reviews of third-party designs for compliance to standards, design briefs and design for maintenance requirements.

To be successful you’ll need:

  • Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent 
  • Strong knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling 
  • In depth understanding of traffic signal technology (Equipment, Method of Control, Passive safety etc.) and knowledge of traffic signal controllers and equipment including MOVA and UTC.
  • Proven track record of delivery in Traffic Signal consultancy/design/implementation/ commissioning/validation.
  • Understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis of schemes
