About this opportunity

The Capital Programme team is responsible for the core delivery of the Council’s c.£80m/year Capital Programme developing projects which make a real ‘on the ground’ difference to our communities, places and people in Westmorland and Furness. On a daily basis the programme develops and maintains new council buildings including care homes, schools, community centres and offices; construct’s and maintains highways and cycleways; builds new flood defences and drives the council’s decarbonisation programme for its services.

The Programme Office Team Leader role will support the Council by leading a team of Programme Officers and Technical Assistants to manage and control a wide variety of programme delivery information including financial data, programme milestones, approvals and both internal and external reporting requirements in relation to all highway’s maintenance and improvement block funding within the Council’s capital programme.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a self-reliant and driven individual who has some knowledge of programme management and control and a willingness to learn and work with others. Ideally the candidate will have knowledge of programme development, IT systems, procurement & cost monitoring in an organisational setting and some experience of the financial and programming aspects used in highway maintenance projects, programmes and works contracts. Candidates will be good with data and comfortable working as part of a small team and able to communicate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to support programme delivery.

Candidates could come from a variety of backgrounds including (but not limited to) project or programme management, highways and transport services, business support services, civil engineering, or contract management.

You can expect to work in and lead a high performing team with likeminded individuals. You can also expect high amounts of accountability and responsibility to help the whole team deliver multi-million-pound projects for Westmorland and Furness Council.
