Working with contractors to maintain a gold standard of service performance.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and local businesses at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective, and efficient. We are recognised as delivering one of the highest specification waste/recycling collections and street cleansing services in London. From clearing up after the Notting Hill Carnival to looking after public toilets and removing graffiti, we spend some £15 million each year to ensure Kensington and Chelsea is a cleaner, greener place to live and work.

The Role:

Following major investment in waste management and associated services, we’re now looking for a contract specialist to ensure value for money. You’ll oversee contract compliance, performance, and delivery across areas as diverse as rubbish and recycling collections, bulky waste collections, animal warden services and jet-washing. This will include working closely with residents’ associations and business organisations as well as council colleagues in street enforcement, housing, pest control, environmental health, and highways. Partnership working is at the heart of this role: you will take the lead on developing collaborative working and innovative problem-solving. You will also be closely involved in procurement activities.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

Although a background in waste management would be ideal, it is not essential. More important is the ability and experience to procure and manage contracts and hold contractors to high standards of performance. Your background could be in the public or the private sector, but you’ll have a strong focus on customer care, partnership working and well-developed communication skills. Proven project management and data analysis skills are also important. You’ll be happy to work autonomously, finding solutions to a range of practical problems while also generating ideas at a strategic level to move the service forward.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
