Highway and Transport Services – Enhancing Lives, Building Communities

We have a fantastic opportunity within our Highways and Transport directorate to join a front-facing service where the work spans multiple legislations, ensuring consistency within the enforcement service and its duties.

The Enforcement Team plays a vital role in achieving the council's objectives and shaping public perception. Through partnerships with Police, Environment Agency, Law Courts and community groups, the team significantly improves the quality of life for Wiltshire residents. The team handles litter and waste management, scrap metal licensing, addressing abandoned vehicles, highway obstructions, unauthorised encampments, and street trading control. Our efforts not only lead to a decrease in environmental offences but also assure the public of the council's commitment to maintaining a clean environment and reducing the burden on taxpayers.

As a Technical Support Officer, you will be the educational lead for the service ensuring that all service functions are balanced with the enforcement priorities. This will involve collaborating closely with internal teams like communications, legal services, and other enforcement departments, as well as external partners such as the Environment Agency and Town Councils. Other responsibilities include preparing reports, managing back-office support through answering phone calls and e-mails as well as managing the statutory licensing process.

We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate sound judgment in balancing conflicting considerations, navigating extensive environmental laws, and aligning actions with national guidelines, as well as the understanding of legal and financial implications.

For more details, contact Peter White, Enforcement Manager, at peter.white@wiltshire.gov.uk, or call 01380 826333.

This role may be subject to certain successful security checks; please see the role description for more information.

We are firmly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and to the principles of inclusion and diversity in both employment and the delivery of services. Read our statement of commitment to equality and inclusion.
