JOB PURPOSE:

  • This post is to meet the need of children on an adoption order or special guardianship.
  • The worker would be required to work intensively with the child and family to help them understand their child’s needs, to respond therapeutically to those needs and to help the child/young person understand their journey.
  • The worker would need to be accredited and organise their own clinical supervision.
  • The worker would not be the primary case holder.
  • The worker would establish a support group for young people to explore issues such as identity, gender, etc.
  • The worker would offer a short-term support service to adopters and carers whilst waiting for long term therapeutic provisions to be established.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience of providing therapeutic intervention.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of current adoption issues.
  • Knowledge of the Adoption Support Fund and how this can be utilised to support families where there is support needs post order.
  • Experience in managing tracker systems and producing reports when requested.
  • Ability to work in a recognised therapeutic manner and meet at least one of the following accreditation: PsychotherapyEDMR, DDP, Attachment, Solution Focussed brief therapy, Sensory Integration Processing Therapy/ Therapeutic Listening Programme, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for the child, Brain mapping, Systemic Family Therapy, Video Interaction Guidance, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Multisystemic Therapy (MST), Dialectical therapy (branch of CBT), RAMP (Reducing Anxiety Management Plan), Neuro integration System Therapy[ NIS], Educational Psychotherapy.
  • Ability to work under own initiative as well as be a strong team player.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good IT/computer skills.
  • Highly organised working practices.
  • Good telephone/listening skills.
  • Ability to communicate well and work in partnership with a range of national and regional partners/stakeholders.
  • Driver’s license with access to a car.
