Job Details

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to support the policy and strategy team to provide specialist input to colleagues in Housing, and across the council and partners across the city.

It is clear that access to good quality, affordable accommodation has a significant positive impact on health and wellbeing. This post will help to ensure the provision of appropriate housing for the residents of the city and specifically for those in need of affordable housing.

The post holder will:

  • Assist the team to produce long term housing strategies and plans.
  • Research national policy, legislation and good practice, interpreting how these will impact on the Housing Service and external partners.
  • Gather, review, interpret and present data, from a wide range of sources, to managers and other colleagues across the council.
  • Support consultations with key stakeholders including colleagues and external partners on strategic housing policy issues.
  • Be responsible for recording of the type, tenure and number of affordable homes delivered under the council’s planning policies and secured under S106 legal agreements.
  • Assist with negotiating agreements on the number, type and tenure of affordable homes on private housing developments

The successful candidate will:

  • Be qualified or experienced in Housing policy, social policy, planning policy or research or related field.
  • Have an understanding of government policy and legislation in the area of affordable housing, regeneration and social housing.
  • Have some experience in carrying out research, analysing findings and recording the results.
  • Have a genuine interest in the field of housing policy and the provision of social housing.

If you are keen to make a difference to the future of housing in the city and want to work as part of an enthusiastic and committed team we would love to hear from you.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.
