Job Details

City of York Council’s Be Independent service is looking to recruit a proactive, hardworking candidate with excellent communication skills for its Business Support team. This is an excellent opportunity for a prospective candidate looking to expand their knowledge and experience within a local authority service.

The post holder will join a team that provides day-to-day administrative support which enables the continual function of our core services, allowing us to deliver vital support to eligible York residents when they need it.

Responsibilities of the post include (but are not limited to): supporting existing and prospective customers with queries; actioning new referrals to our services, and providing advice and guidance on the suitability of varying equipment or Telecare options; supporting Occupational Therapists and Response/Telecare Practitioners to find suitable solutions for their clients; liaising with third parties to schedule equipment maintenance and repairs; and financial processing, including ordering and debtor maintenance.

Strong telephone and email skills are a must. Previous experience in an administrative role is beneficial, but not essential; we are looking to recruit someone with a combination of the right skillset, values, and behaviours, who is determined to make a success of the role.

Following a review of processes due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is a Hybrid working role, encompassing time spent at our office (off James Street) and time spent working from home. It is a fast-paced environment, often with high volumes of work: therefore, you will need to demonstrate an ability to prioritise, and to work collaboratively with others to solve problems.

Be Independent provides York residents with Telecare and Response Services, and loans them assessed Community Equipment to help meet their daily living needs. For more information about the services we are able to offer, please visit https://www.york.gov.uk/BeIndependent

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

For further information or an informal discussion please contact Dan Robinson (Hub Co-ordinator) at daniel.robinson@york.gov.uk  or on 01904 551935
