About the Post:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Network Management team within the Highways service, supporting Barnsley Council’s Streetworks function.  The Streetworks team plays an important role in keeping Barnsley moving by coordinating works in the highway and minimising disruption to highway users.  You’ll contribute to this by working with colleagues across the service, along with utility companies and other stakeholders.

Your duties will include issuing highways licences, ensuring financial records are up to date, processing invoices and purchase orders, arranging meetings, taking minutes and answering customer queries.  You’ll need to be a good communicator with great customer service skills. You’ll also need to be familiar with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Teams.  You’ll also need to use specialist highway management software but we’ll give you full training on this.

Creativity, ambition and a focus on people. That’s what matters at Barnsley Council. Our award-winning council is on an exciting journey of change. It’s all about putting local people at the heart of everything, listening to and doing good for our communities. We’re now more innovative, more efficient and provide better value for money. The changes are clear to see - from new businesses and jobs, to improving school results and to museums being recognised for their community engagement.  The Highways service is key to delivering Barnsley’s growth and future prosperity.
