Job Details

As more of our customers use digital media, the City of York Council are looking for a Website Configuration Officer, to join our small but far-reaching Web Services Team and undertake aspects of PHP coding and development.

Putting residents first, we provide high quality and responsive services using modern technologies; we want to continue developing our websites so they’re easy to use and more customer-focused.

This varied and interesting role offers opportunities to work in a changing, dynamic and growing environment, on innovative projects.

You’ll use your creativity and innovation to find solutions which support the development of business workflows.

Key skills and experience required;

We are seeking someone with a minimum of 1 year experience developing custom business

processes and system integrations, using their specialist technical knowledge.

We’re looking for candidates who have excellent attention to detail, and robust skills in PHP (knowledge of Symfony framework, Twig, MySQL is also required, along with an understanding of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript).

You’ll be required to work within our existing software and content management systems and have a good knowledge of web services and version control, ideally with a sound understanding of W3C standards.

In addition, the successful candidate will have;

  • Confidence as a communicator, with the ability to express complex ideas concisely and in a way that is understandable for people of all abilities.
  • Strong configuration skills and an ability to make positive decisions, based on your technical knowledge, and awareness of data processing and integrations.
  • Proven experience in the interrogation of key corporate business information processes; you’ll champion the part which efficient digital processes play within a large organisation, and have an understanding and appreciation of the benefits of using content management systems (CMS), customer relationship management (CRM), master data management (MDM), and geographical information systems (GIS).

If you have a positive attitude towards collaborative working and you’re looking for a new challenge, to develop your career, or you’re interested in the diversity of the work in a Local Authority could offer, then we would welcome your application.

This role is based at West offices and include working from home.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.

The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
