Are you passionate about delivering real change for the environment?

This is an exciting opportunity in a new post to help Basingstoke and Deane address environmental challenges by taking on an important role in developing and delivering the council’s green infrastructure agenda.

Working within the established Natural Environment Team, we are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking individual to lead a newly formed Green Infrastructure Team to help shape how the Council responds to its ecological emergency declaration and ensure ambitious targets are fulfilled.

This position would best suit someone who wants to get stuck in, make a difference and is motivated by having a diverse and varied workload.  You will be a people person, who likes making connections and working in a team environment, be that in the office or working from home. The role will involve working with colleagues, councillors and external bodies and partners.

This is an exciting opportunity to help protect and enhance the diverse natural environment of Basingstoke and Deane.  Across the borough there is a diverse range of flora and fauna, set within the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), National and Local Nature Reserves, and a wealth of parks and open spaces, including 2 Green Flag parks.

You will have a proven track record of working within a green infrastructure or related role, with project management skills that have developed and delivered strategies and projects that protect and enhance the natural environment, in either the public or private sector.

A thorough knowledge and detailed understanding of current issues and professional practices is essential, combined with excellent communication and team working skills.

In return we can offer you an excellent range of benefits including:

  • Opportunities to develop your skills and experience
  • Local Government Pension, and annual leave which increases over time.
  • flexible working
  • salary sacrifice lease cars scheme
  • healthcare cash plan
  • BeRewarded benefits platform
  • free parking, subject to a waiting list
  • and more…

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Paul Johnston, Natural Environment Team Leader, on 01256 845763 or by email at paul.johnston@basingstoke.gov.uk.
