We have been awarded £79M for Transforming the way our residents and visitors travel and are expecting further funding for additional Active Travel Measures, as well as ongoing funding through the Local Transport Plan Programme.

We have a number of exciting opportunities to join our Engineering Services, working for a newly formed local authority where transformation and digital ways of working are at the heart of what we do.

We are looking for;-

Highway Engineers/Project Engineers/Contract Engineer (Career Grade I -J)

As an experienced Highway Engineer, you’ll see schemes progress from early design to construction. You’ll feel inspired to challenge yourself, as well as your colleagues. You will work on a variety of projects across the conurbation from major highways improvements through to a diverse range of small and medium highways projects. We would love to hear from Engineers who have developed their skills over several years since graduating and have experience of working within constrained urban highway environments and can demonstrate an experience of delivering high quality sustainable travel improvements or experience of delivering NEC contracts through the ECC and TSC as a Project Manager.

Street Lighting Engineer (Grade I)

As an experienced and professionally qualified Street Lighting Engineer, you will be responsible for effectively and efficiently maintaining the Council’s stock of over 38,000 street lights and illuminated signs to improve highway safety, reduce fear of crime and minimise energy use and to develop and implement policies in line with Street Lighting best practice.

You should have demonstrable experience of working in or with local authorities to maintain their lighting stock and manage contractors

Highway Maintenance Technician (Grade G to I) / Engineer (Grade G to J)

As an experienced Highway Maintenance professional, you will provide technical expertise and support to deliver highway maintenance services and assist in the management of the highway network consisting of 1250 km of carriageway and the highway drainage asset,

You should have a minimum of three years’ experience in one or more of the following: Structural Maintenance design and specification, analysing survey data to determine treatment programmes, supervision of highway maintenance works

Highway Structures Engineer (Grade G to J)

As an experienced engineer, you will assist with maintaining the Council’s stock of 280 highway structures. The role will involve undertaking bridge inspections, identifying and programming maintenance works, preparing contract documents, supervising contractors and updating the Councils Bridge Management database.

You should have a relevant engineering degree and a minimum of three years post graduate experience in bridge maintenance and management.

Clerk of Works/ Site Supervisor (Grade G to I)

You will assist in the general checking and inspection of constructions works undertaken by the Council to ensure they are undertaken in accordance with the specification.

A good working knowledge of NEC Engineering and Constructions contracts, CDM Regulations and Chapter 8 would be beneficial.
