Sandwell’s Highway Services can confirm an opportunity is now available for a Permit Administrator.

Sandwell Council is in the process of expanding its Streetworks Permit Scheme Team.

The correct co-ordination of streetworks on the highway is essential in ensuring the local road network remain free flowing. Sandwell Highways prides itself on providing a well-managed highway network that supports the economic growth, prosperity and wellbeing of both residents and visitors to our Borough. It is one of the enablers to the delivery of Sandwell’s Corporate Plan.

As a Permit Officer within the Permit Team you will be able to play a key part in the administration of streetworks permits that are submitted to us for approval and provide administrative support to other members of the permit team. The role will be varied. Tasks will include providing support to our Highways Inspector, notification of highway defects to Utilities, raising Fixed Penalty Notices and the reconciliation of monthly fees to the utilities. You will be expected to provide administrative support to the regular meetings held with Utilities and neighbouring authorities.

Requirements:

5 GCSE’s grade A-C.

We would love to hear from applicants who can demonstrate:  

Experience of dealing with the public, employees, external organisations and other authorities.

Ability to respond appropriately to enquiries from the public or their elected representatives.

Ability to effectively organise.

Excellent understanding of IT systems.

A drive to continuously improve.

A willingness to undertake appropriate training.

Experience of using Symology-insight or similar would be an advantage.

Ability to work under pressure, organise your own workload and meet deadlines.
