The Role

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic colleague to join Bolton Council as a Deputy Head of SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities). This is an exciting time both nationally with the publication of the new SEND Review, and in terms of local developments such as the development of the ‘Belonging in Bolton Strategy’ and the opening of new Resourced Provisions for children with SEND. In Bolton we are very fortunate to have excellent, long standing relationships with colleagues across education, health, social care and schools which places us in a strong position to implement new reforms.

This newly created post will support the Head of SEND in the overall management and leadership of SEND across the Local Area, leading on project work and SEND multiagency workstreams aligned with the SEND Strategy, leading the interface with managers / Heads of Service in Health and Children’s/Adult’s Social Care and being responsible for the multi-agency Quality Assurance of Education, Health and Care Plans. There will be line management responsibilities for the administrators in our SEND Assessment Service.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic, committed and hardworking individual who strives to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND, and who is committed to multi-agency working. You’ll be an effective communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills that enable you to work effectively with all stakeholders, with a proven track record of working in the area of SEND, and an excellent understanding of SEND legislation and practice. You will be able to build on past successes and areas of strength, be willing to embrace new ideas and ways of working and be able to lead future development of work in Bolton whilst working in a complex operating environment.

Applicants should be educated to at least degree standard and have management or leadership experience within either a school or local authority context.

Bolton is a place where you can make a personal impact to the lives of children and young people. You will inspire and nurture those who you work closely with to strive for continued and sustained progress across the service.

About Us

Bolton is an exciting place to work. Departmental leaders are committed to the SEND agenda and SEND has a high profile across the local area.  We are determined to provide the very best for every child, ensuring that good is good for everyone and that SEND is everyone’s business.

You will be part of a supportive and effective team in which there is a wide range of experience to draw upon and share. The team works from modern office facilities with on-site parking.

You’ll have access to a wide range of benefits to support you to be the best you can be, including:

  • Access to learning and development opportunities and activities for your Continued Professional Development
  •  Agile & flexible working options, ensuring you achieve a good work life balance
  • Up to £3,000 Relocation Package
  • Up to date technology
  • Health & wellbeing support
  • Excellent pension scheme
  • Access to a range of staff benefits including gym membership, Cycle to Work and car lease schemes.
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Opportunities to shape practice and service delivery
  • Essential car user allowance on top of your salary
