With a rich and diverse culture, Sandwell Borough is home to award-winning parks and leisure centres, high-performing libraries, an iconic range of museums and heritage sites, playing fields and green open spaces – the ‘jewel’ in the crown being Sandwell Valley Country Park.

As part of our place making and visitor growth agenda, we have ambitious plans to strengthen Sandwell’s identity as a ‘destination gateway’ into the Towns and the wider Black Country/West Midlands region; through supporting the hosting of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games – at the newly-built Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Smethwick – and the launch of a new Destination Marketing/Place Branding campaign.

As part of this ambition we are looking to appoint a self-motivated, enthusiastic and creative Tourism Officer to develop/shape an emerging vibrant tourism function – with excellent communication and relationship building skills.

The successful candidate will have experience in the marketing and promotion of a tourism service or similar – and be committed to delivering an excellent customer focused product. You will be able to operate at a strategic level in a visitor-related environment – working with a range of national/regional and local partners; towards building sustainable relationships, generating ideas/destination campaigns and supporting the visitor growth economy.

Requirements:

• Relevant degree to suit environment or higher education and/or proven experience in tourism management (or a related subject) for over 2 years – with relevant training
• At least 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at Grade C (4) – including English and Mathematics
