Transport Development Team Leader

Location

Salary
£53,018 - £59,964 per annum + Staff Benefits

About the role

The starting salary for this role is £53,018 per annum based on a 36 hour working week.

This role is open to remote working meaning you aren't required in the office five days a week. We care about how you work rather than where you work. Due to nature of the role, you will need to be accessible to the whole of Surrey for site visits and meetings when required. In support of our people and our greener futures strategies, we’d welcome a conversation with the successful candidate on what remote working may look like for you.

The Team

Transport Development Planning sits within the Planning Group and is responsible for delivering the highways and transport input on all planning applications received by the County's 12 Local Planning Authorities.

The Role

Are you a talented, practical and fast thinking engineer who can lead our Technical Team delivering developer related highway works on Surrey's roads? If yes, then this is a great opportunity to build your career with an organisation which will train and invest in you.

The role is challenging and exciting as no one development is ever the same, with many projects on the go at any one time. These range from supporting the delivery of minor junction alterations through to the construction of new communities, as we're currently doing at Horley and Deepcut.

We're looking for an experienced and innovative engineer, who can design check developers' submissions for Section 38/278 works, and who can inspect the delivery of the works on the ground. You will lead a team of Engineers, most of whom undertake inspections of works and as such most of your work will be based around approving construction drawings, as well as leading, mentoring and training other members of the team. You will be expected to be able to take pragmatic decisions in agreeing designs that enable safe and fit for purpose solutions. You will be someone with an eye for detail who can deliver schemes within tight site constraints and on time.

To be shortlisted, you will be required to evidence the following knowledge and experience in your application:

  • The Section 278/38 process
  • Inspecting development related works
  • Highway design standards
  • Experience of managing a team or individual

You will be a key member of the Transport Development Planning Leadership team and be part of the wider TDP group of teams who enjoy an active team-building and social life. The role will require travel to all areas of the County, so an ability to drive is essential. Car Clubs are available to use for work-based journeys. Your office base will be in Woking, although much of your work will either be on site or undertaken through agile working.

Benefits

From flexible working to job sharing we are committed to providing a healthy work life balance. A laptop and mobile will be supplied.
