We have fantastic opportunities for strategic planning professionals, as we are looking to expand our Strategic Planning Team. If you are ready for a new challenge and are interested in an opportunity to join our successful team then these positions will be of interest to you.

As a Strategic Planning Technician providing technical assistance and effective research and information to inform decision-making and policy development you will have knowledge and understanding of research and development techniques and land use monitoring systems including Geographical Information Systems (GIS). With a knowledge of how the town planning system operates you will be skilled in the use of Microsoft office and MapInfo. Proficient in data analysis you will have an ability to communicate technical issues to a range of audiences.

Contributing to growing the city’s plan to promote spatial development and to protect the quality of York's unique historic, natural and built environment the team are currently progressing a varied work programme including a new Local Plan through examination, which is supported by a dedicated programme manager, the production of supplementary planning documents, neighbourhood plans and a Joint Minerals and Waste plan with neighbouring authorities.

The post requires you to be educated to degree level within a relevant discipline with ideally membership of or eligibility to belong to the Royal Town Planning Institute

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

Relocation expenses, in accordance with the City of York Council’s Relocation Policy, may be available for the successful candidate subject to meeting the relevant criteria
