Job Details

The Pathway team are looking for an Education, Training and Employment advisor, to work with young people leaving care. Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the law relating to Children leaving Care and the Social Work Act 2017.

Key tasks of the role:

  • To lead the Education, Training and Employment agenda for Care Leavers (aged 16-24) within Children’s Social Care and to advise colleagues about ETE.
  • To monitor and plan for changing ETE needs as young people prepare to move into adulthood. To undertake negotiations on behalf of the service with ETE providers to develop and sustain a variety of options for care leavers. To manage the relationships with providers and support agencies, to prevent care leavers from joining the NEET population

The ETE advisor will be expected to be highly creative and innovative in the approaches that they take to engage care leavers in ETE activities. Nationally, care leavers are considered ‘hard to reach’ and figure high on rates of unemployment, exclusion due to criminality, mental illness and homelessness.

The ETE advisor will be an excellent communicator, have understanding and encourage resilience in young people; be able to negotiate and resolve conflict and problems. They will support and advise young people to explore their ETE interests and raise aspirations.

The ETE advisor will contribute to needs assessment and pathway plans and coordinate Personal education plans.

Keep up to date with the local job market in order to source and publicise appropriate employment opportunities for young people.

 This vacancy is a job sharing position 18.5 hours per week.

This is a fixed term position till 01/10/22.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
