Contract: Up to 60 days per annum / Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum

This is unique opportunity to lead the Northern agenda and play a pivotal role in creating new opportunities for 15 million people in the North.

As Chair of the TfN Board and Partnership Board you will be a key figure in expressing the North’s aspirations to create a thriving green economy through transport investment – relentlessly leading the agreed vision of our leaders on the national stage.

You will have experience of and a strong affinity with the North – essential to ensure you are a compelling champion for the region’s interests. In this ambassadorial role, not only will you help build TfN’s brand and further the case for investment, you will be at the heart of fostering collaboration across the North and with Government.

As a confident leader, you’ll have the gravitas to chair the meetings of the North’s mayors, political, business and community leaders to great effect, ensuring full member involvement and sound decision-making. You’ll be equally at home in providing strategic leadership to TfN members and officers, having a close working relationship with TfN’s CEO and with all members of the TfN Board, acting as trusted advisor and external figurehead engaging with a wide range of local, regional and national stakeholders.

Now is the North’s time. With a Northern imperative to level-up; achieve net zero to tackle climate change; and build back better as our economy recovers, you’ll forge change and help reverse decades of underinvestment in the North’s transport network. All the while, you’ll understand that relationships and collaboration are at the heart of achieving a more prosperous and productive economy.

Above all, you know the power providing one, united voice can have on making a difference. As Chair of the first statutory Sub-national Transport Body, this will be at the bedrock of your mission, to drive forward this unique partnership for the benefit of our people and businesses.
