Initial 2 Year Fixed Term Appointment

Plymouth made history in 2019 when key local, regional and national partners came together to create the UK’s first ever National Marine Park. This has cross party support locally and has now been recognised by central Government. The Park has also received £10m from the national lottery Heritage Fund Horizon Awards to fully develop the concept.

We have an ambitious, transformational and compelling vision for the UK’s National Marine Park that has naturally evolved from Plymouth’s unique proposition as Britain’s Ocean City. It is at the centre our new economic strategy, visitor and cultural plans as well as our recently declared climate emergency and Freeport status.

We are now seeking to appoint an inspirational and entrepreneurial interim Chief Executive, on an initial 2 year fixed term appointment, to develop all aspects of the National Marine Park. Based within the City Council’s economic development team you will be accountable to the newly formed National Marine Park Board and work closely with Destination Plymouth.

This is a totally unique opportunity to set up the UKs first national Marine Park in one of the world’s most unique marine landscapes and historic cities. A city at the cutting edge of marine research and new autonomous technologies. As an inspirational leader and ambitious self-starter you will be committed to meaningful community engagement and partnership working.

The National Marine Park is at the centre of all our strategic plans for the development and growth of the City. It supported also by the city’s key stakeholders including Plymouth City Council, the University of Plymouth, Plymouth and Devon Chamber of Commerce, City College, Blue, HM Devonport Naval Base and Plymouth Growth Board
