Are you interested in joining an ambitious, forward thinking local authority?

Canterbury City Council is a district council in the heart of Kent and offers a vibrant place to work and live.  The district boasts an aspirational city that is steeped in history and culture, a beautiful, active coastline - and village life that epitomises the Garden of England.

We’re looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and flexible individual to fill the newly created post of Deputy Director of Place.

The post holder will have an exciting and broad remit including strategic responsibility for regeneration, planning, property, engineering, museums, and commercial assets - as well as managing the external relationships with third party leisure and culture providers, businesses and the voluntary sector.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to lead the development and delivery of  commercial and customer-focused services, drive continuous improvement and to develop positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including our city councillors.

They will also need excellent problem solving skills, demonstrate a genuine ability to positively manage teams through culture change and be skilled at assessing local and economic issues in a political and social environment.

We are going through an exciting organisational change programme as part of our commitment to continually improve its services and delivery for our customers.  This is one of the pivotal roles within the new operating model and therefore a permanent position. The role is a politically restricted post and will be a member of the council’s Management Team.

Canterbury City Council is a great place to work. Our conditions include Local Government Pension Scheme membership plus benefits. Our staff benefits package includes generous annual leave and flexible working arrangements, reduced cost leisure membership and excellent training and development opportunities.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact suzi.wakeham@canterbury.gov.uk

Interviews to be held weeks commencing 11th and 18th October.
