About Us

At Essex County Council Adult Social Care services, our mission is clear. We want to make the best and most sustainable use of all resources available to the adult, their families, and carers. To ensure they have access to information and tools to enable them to live as healthily and independently as possible, and to exercise choice and control over their lives. And to ensure the safety, dignity, and quality of life for all the adults we work with.

To make sure we achieve our goals, we're transforming our service to be more proactive and to continue building on our strengths-based model. We're very proud of our service and the work we're doing to build long lasting and effective relationships with our partner organisations to maximise community capacity and resilience.

Due to the ambitious and innovative changes Essex County Council are looking to implement across the function, we are looking to recruit resilient leaders into new roles where they will be enabled to achieve long-term strategic goals, whilst influencing day to day operations. Shaping the future of Adult Social Care in Essex.

The Role

Essex County Council is looking to recruit into a new role, the Director of Adults with Disabilities. This role will report into the newly appointed Director of ASC Essex Operations (Deputy DASS). The main focus of this role will be to lead on the strategy and operational oversight for Adults with Disabilities.

You'll also have influence over the operational activities of frontline teams working within the four alliances, as well as strong links with other functions.

You'll be responsible for operational performance in line with all relevant legislation, budget responsibilities, provision of care, finance and investment for LD&A & PSI.

This is a key role in defining our future LD&A & PSI offer and aligning it to the ASC operating model. As such, you'll need an expert understanding of the demographic profile of adults and young people with LD&A and PSI needs and how to manage these within a challenging financial environment.

About You

We're looking for a strategic leader with substantial drive and a passion for LD&A and PSI, who has the skills to challenge and influence, internally and externally. Educated to degree level, or equivalent by experience, you'll also bring:

  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in Social Care.
  • A proven track record of successful strategic leadership within an organisation of comparable scope and complexity.
  • A developed understanding of the issues facing adults with disabilities and autism.
  • The ability to translate top-level strategy and provide direction while managing conflicting priorities.

  • Proven communication skills with an ability to influence strategically and corporately.
  • Strong project management and commercial experience with evidence of a clear understanding of financial responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to focus on results.
  • Proven track record of using professional expertise to deliver strategic objectives.
