You will work in the traditional areas of design, technical approvals, supervision and asset management, but you will also take in the inception and constitutional areas of projects.  The multi-disciplinary team you will be joining has professional engineers who work together across all areas of highways, intelligent transport, bridges, lighting, signs, drainage, and developer-led works.  With the Council containing most services under one roof you will also meet/get to know lots of other specialists, including our colleagues in transport, planning, building services and parks teams.

Reporting directly to the Team Leader for Structures and Street Lighting we are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our team.  A typical week for you could include:

• Setting direction for the street lighting asset, including long term programmes for testing and Capital budget management and associated processes. 

•           Completion of scheme packs and associated design work, including lighting levels, specifications and general scheme constraints.  Typical schemes involve column or lantern installations and replacements, zebra crossing installations and speed/parking camera installations.  Ensuring that this process achieves high quality and cost effective outputs.

•           Overseeing the day to day fault management, additional lighting requests and general asset management/testing of assets.  This includes the management of our Central Management System (CMS) and asset management software.

•           Management of the health and safety aspects of projects, including acting as Principal Designer.

•           Negotiating with developers/completing Technical Approvals to ensure that all adopted lighting assets meet the Council’s quality standards and adequate commuted sums are obtained.  Ensuring that the associated fee income is then acquired.

•           Supporting and mentoring colleagues within our career-grade scheme

•           Any necessary site visits to enable the above, including independent travelling to site when required.

We are searching for people who have:

•           Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (essential)

•           Membership of a professional institution e.g. ILP

•           Completion or part completion of the ILP’s Exterior Lighting Diploma or equivalent
