Barrow-in-Furness has got a lot going for it: from its extensive stunning coast to the fact that the Lake District is right on the doorstep. But you can also expect the wow factor when it comes to our scope for professional opportunity. A series of successful funding bids, and more underway, means that we have much to do. That’s why we’re investing in our capacity at Assistant Director level: allocating more resource to the crucial interface between strategic priorities and operational delivery. It’s a place where you can make great things happen.

This is a new role within the organisation with a clear mandate for change. You’ll lead on a number of key corporate services, including HR and ICT to ensure that they are successfully aligned to support our priorities and that we make better use of technology and modern working practices. You can expect your remit to touch on issues pertaining to performance management, organisational development, business processes and digital capacity. It’s an opportunity to influence and enhance what we do and how we do it.

Specific areas of responsibility will include:

  • HR which incorporates recruitment, intake and induction, retention and training, performance appraisal, pay and staff benefits, case management, absence management and exit management
  • ICT which incorporates infrastructure, network, design/configuration, security, strategy, interfaces, agile working, telecoms, mobile devices, print/scan solutions, and some support to service specific software
  • Other aspects within the division include internal process review and re-design, change management, automation and self-service, workforce strategy, values and behaviours, organisational development, risk management, performance management, service planning and Business Support solutions.

You should already have a proven track record in leading operational and cultural change within an organisation, and it’s likely you hold a professional qualification in organisational development, change management or business management. You’ll be able to interpret data from a range of sources in order to inform policy and change activity. You’ll have a good appreciation of how technology can be fully utilised in order to improve services and shape a better customer experience. You should have extensive experience of measuring performance via customer engagement.
