Do you have experience as a Transport Modeller? We are seeking a Lead Transport Modeller in the Planning and Environment Service at East Sussex County Council.

About Us

Transport Development Control is one of four teams in the Planning and Environment Service, which is part of the Communities, Economy and Transport Directorate. The overall aims of the Planning and Environment Service are to ensure that decisions made about planning and development make a positive difference to the economy, people, and places of East Sussex and enable the delivery of the right infrastructure, in the right place, at the right time.

The work of the Service includes undertaking statutory and other functions relating to planning, highways, and development, influencing other decision- makers, and working in partnership with other organisations and bodies to achieve a range of broad and, sometimes, long-term outcomes.

Transport Development Control is a team of transport planning professionals responsible for providing expert technical transport advice to Local Planning Authorities in order to ensure that development proposals through the planning process are of the highest quality; whilst minimising the impact on the highway network. Working with other teams in the department, they also support the Local Planning Authorities in the development of their evidence bases for local plans.

You will be required to have an appropriate level of knowledge and experience to be the lead on all transport modelling matters for the County Council. The work may involve attendance at public meetings or local plan examinations. The work will include working on the development and maintenance of transport models in East Sussex as well as assessing transport modelling for proposed new development.

About You

You will need to be able to work as part of a team delivering a customer-focused service and helping to meet agreed outcomes and priorities for this service area.

You will need expertise in a variety of transport modelling and junction assessment software and be able to critically review modelling that is submitted to support a planning application. Other teams within the County Council will also rely on your expertise to guide the work they do.

You will be able to build and maintain productive relationships internally as well as with key stakeholders and be able to influence others to make a positive contribution to the quality of life in our communities. This includes liaising with elected members, district and borough councils, other local planning authorities and agencies, Highways England, community groups, and developers and their consultants.

You will need to be able to work within recognised procedures, organise your own workload, and respond independently to unanticipated problems and situations as they arise. In doing this, you will be able to balance long and short-term priorities, competing needs for money and resources, and sometimes conflicting interests within the wider community. You may need to travel independently around the County to undertake site visits and to attend site meetings.

If you would like to discuss this further, please contact Alex Jack – Transport Development Control Manager at alex.jack@eastsussex.gov.uk
