Full time

Our residents are at the heart of every action, decision and thought at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Here, we believe that people-centric policies and services will ultimately lead to the best possible future for our dynamic local community, resulting in a workplace that is both innovative and creative. We apply the same mindset to how we support our workforce. It is vital that our colleagues’ needs are catered for at every turn, so our Corporate Health & Safety department plays a vital role in ensuring a happy and healthy workforce. Join this team as an Apprentice, and you will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the wellbeing of our people – while developing the skills required to forge a fantastic career in a high performing local authority.

The Role:

Over a period of 30 months, you will learn from an experienced and friendly team who deliver health and safety advice to colleagues in every directorate across the council. Seeing to it that teams across the council are working in line with relevant health and safety legislation, you will gain a comprehensive knowledge of how to reduce and eliminate risk to our people and the public. Combining hands-on experience with a range of learning opportunities, you will ultimately work towards achieving Safety, Health and Environment Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship standard. This is an exciting opportunity to gain key skills such as how to undertake risk assessments, how to conduct site inspections and incident investigations, and how to come up with control measures that will manage risk. Encouraged to share your ideas on how to do things better, you will learn a wealth of transferable skills, providing you with an exceptional basis on which to move into any number of industries. Above all else, you’ll have the chance to work alongside a team who are passionate about what they do, and in the process, you’ll make life better for both our residents and our staff.

About You:

To join our ambitious and highly inclusive team, you will have a minimum of a Level 1 pass in English and Maths, GCSEs or equivalent. You will also be capable of achieving a Level 2 pass in both subjects before completion of your apprenticeship. Highly organised with great attention to detail and a keen interest in health and safety, you will be quick to learn and you will enjoy embracing new opportunities. With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will have the capacity to influence and work in partnership with stakeholders both across the council, and externally, and you will be capable of working with technical documents. You will be ambitious, proactive and flexible, with good research skills and the ability to embrace change. Crucially, you will also share our values: you will put communities at the heart of everything that you do, you will respect the opinions of others, you will work with integrity and compassion, and you will be a team player.

Please apply online and specify on your application how you meet the skills, knowledge and qualities specified in the job description and person specification.
