Job Details

Help to make their day a little easier.

Eltham Crematorium is the UK’s busiest crematorium hosting 3,500 cremations each year and an average of 14 funerals per day. The crematorium is operated by a Joint Committee comprising of Royal Greenwich, Bexley and Dartford Councils.

As a Bereavement Services Assistant, based at the Crematorium, your objective will be to deliver the highest possible standards of care.  This will include ensuring our bereaved customers have as positive an experience with us as is possible.  It’s your attention to detail and empathetic flexible approach that will enable the smooth running of the crematorium – whether that’s talking to the bereaved on the phone, face to face, processing memorial applications, updating files, directing people to the Garden of Remembrance, Chapels, assisting with general enquiries or assisting your colleagues with other bereavement issues, your contribution will be valued by all.

Ideally you’ll have some experience working in a very busy environment within the care or bereavement services arena.  Any supporting qualifications would be advantageous but is not essential.  However, your customer-service skills must be exceptional and have experience of dealing with visitors in a calm, caring and empathetic manner is required.  Good IT, written and communications skills are also essential for this role.  You’ll also be expected to adopt the current processes within the office environment and be able to take instruction, follow guidance and an ability to prioritise workloads to assist your colleagues.

We are seeking a candidate who is flexible and motivated and although this role can be very challenging it is also very rewarding knowing that you are making a difference to people at a very vulnerable and sensitive time in their lives.  You will be joining a small team who understand those challenges and who are able to offer support throughout.

This is a 6-month fixed term opportunity.
