Help to make Hounslow safer, greener and healthier.

Exciting things are happening here in Hounslow. We’re embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise how we work and reduce our carbon footprint. Our diverse team is finding all sorts of ways to make our borough an even better place to be for our residents and visitors alike. By dealing with a wide range of transport planning issues, from major strategic transport projects through to the promotion of cycling and walking, our Transport Planning & Road Safety team is central to our success.

Right now, we’re looking for two Transport Projects Officers to help us deliver our innovative transport strategy, which is about making our network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible.

The first role will focus on promoting active and sustainable travel, engaging with our schools on road safety and leading on business and community travel planning initiatives. You can also expect to work on innovative projects such as the London e-scooter trial, anti-idling campaigns and school streets as well as putting together funding bids to external partners.

The second role will help us to assess the transport impacts of new developments, ensuring that all proposals support our transport strategy and our values. You’ll need to secure appropriate mitigation measures from developers, working closely with colleagues in the planning and regeneration teams. Your role will also include responding to other transport and planning queries and processes. A knowledge of the planning system is therefore important.

These roles represent a fantastic opportunity to work with colleagues across the council to ensure active travel is fully embedded into everything we do. You’ll be part of a creative team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.

For both roles, you should have a transport planning qualification, or similar. For the first tole you should have experience of working in a transport planning environment, and for the second role either a transport planning or town planning environment. We’ll want to see a good understanding of current best practice in the promotion of sustainable transport and the ability to manage projects up to a value of c£50,000. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also essential.

In addition, we’ll also want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to help deliver our Transport Strategy, feed into a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, and protect the environment. You’re someone who can influence the delivery of the innovative projects that are part of the programme.

We’re based in Hounslow House, but are currently working from home. We also offer excellent career development, an inclusive culture and a whole range of generous benefits. All in a visionary borough like no other.
