Help drive a transportation transformation

Exciting things are happening here in Hounslow. We’re embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise how we work and reduce our carbon footprint. Our diverse team is finding all sorts of ways to make our borough an even better place to be for our residents and visitors alike. And by helping to make this a prosperous, healthy, accessible and safe environment for all, our Capital Projects team is right at the heart of it.

If you’re an ambitious graduate, this role is an opportunity to help deliver engineering and transportation projects ranging from minor improvements to £multi-million infrastructure projects. Think charging points for electric cars. More bike lanes. A better walking network. Greater accessibility for those with mobility needs. As well as giving you huge scope to learn and develop a host of skills, the role will enable you to make a tangible difference to our diverse communities by making our transport network healthy, clean, green, safe and accessible. You’ll also be part of a supportive team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.

You’ll assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of various transport projects in a role that’s an excellent training ground for a graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in the field of traffic and transport. Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll collaborate with colleagues across the directorate to ensure our services are fully integrated and always put our communities first. Your role will also involve coming up with innovative ways to tackle a range of local issues.

As well as a degree, you’ll need the ability to manage projects up to a value of c£10,000, and to develop a good working understanding of practical risk, financial and performance management techniques. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also essential as you’ll need to summarise complex proposals using non-technical language, draft clear, concise and accurate reports, and present information clearly and persuasively.

We’ll also want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to deliver a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, protect the environment and enable us to deliver on our Transport Strategy. You’re someone who can influence the delivery of the innovative projects that are part of the programme.

We’re based in Hounslow House, a new landmark building located in Hounslow town centre. Our investment in new technology enables our teams to work remotely and flexibly giving everyone a better work/life balance. We also offer excellent career development, an inclusive culture and a whole range of generous benefits. All in a visionary borough like no other.
