Senior Engineer (Network Management)
Help us build a sustainable network that’s fit for the future
Exciting things are happening here in Hounslow. We’re embarking upon a major programme of change to modernise how we work and reduce our carbon footprint. Our diverse team is finding all sorts of ways to make our borough an even better place to be for our residents and visitors alike. And by helping to make this a prosperous, healthy, accessible and safe environment for all, our Capital Projects team is right at the heart of it.
Join us as a Senior Engineer (Network Management), and you’ll contribute to the development and implementation of policies designed to ensure that we meet our network management responsibilities. Our transport network is large and complex, and we’re committed to making it healthier, cleaner, greener, safer and more accessible by undertaking everything from minor improvements to £multi-million infrastructure projects. Think charging points for electric cars. More bike lanes. A better walking network. Greater accessibility for those with mobility needs. It’s a role that will enable you to make a tangible difference to our diverse communities. Especially because you’ll be part of a creative team with clear values centred around curiosity, making things happen, seeing the bigger picture, collaborating and achieving positive outcomes.
Your specific responsibilities will include investigating traffic management issues and developing appropriate engineering solutions; assessing and documenting the impact of any new proposals on our highway network; managing our Traffic Management Order and Temporary Traffic Regulation Order functions; and advising our Safety Advisory Group on all matters relating to traffic, transport and parking. You’ll also liaise with the organisers of special events, works promoters and other council departments to minimise any impact on our highway network.
With a degree in Civil Engineering (or similar), you’ll draw on your engineering experience to investigate traffic management issues and propose appropriate solutions to make the most effective use of the highway network. It’s vital that you can bring a good grasp of relevant legislation, best practice guidance and current design standards. You should also be comfortable preparing reports and presenting them at meetings and public forums.
In addition, we’ll want to see the enthusiasm, ambition and skills to deliver a green recovery, help tackle the Climate Emergency, protect the environment and enable us to deliver on our Transport Strategy. You’re someone who can see our innovative projects through from design to delivery with flair and focus.
We’re based in Hounslow House, a new landmark building located in Hounslow town centre. Our investment in new technology enables our teams to work remotely and flexibly giving everyone a better work/life balance. We also offer excellent career development, an inclusive culture and a whole range of generous benefits. All in a visionary borough like no other.
