About Us:

Supporting you to support others.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and local businesses at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. We are dedicated to ensuring the most vulnerable people can access the support they need, when they need it. As part of this commitment, we work closely with Westminster City Council in a bi-borough agreement to deliver a comprehensive range of services to adults with sensory impairment.

The Role:

Within this Rehabilitation apprenticeship role, the apprenticeship programme will help you grow in your role and gain valuable skills and experiences for your current and future work. You will spend 20 percent of your working hours gaining skills and knowledge to work towards the Rehabilitation Worker (Visual Impairment) Level 5 apprenticeship standard. This will typically include attending workshops, on-line learning, webinars, coaching or shadowing. Through appropriate training you will gain the experience required to be able to provide a professional rehabilitation service to people with visual loss, in a wide variety of settings, from private homes to residential care.

Having gained entry of the Rehabilitation Studies with Birmingham University, you will be expected to fulfil the role of a Rehabilitation Assistant within the Sensory service. You will be working with service users living with severe sight impairment or partially sighted by carrying out specialist assessments in accordance with the Care Act 2014 and devising a care and support plan to meet identified needs.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

Holding the relevant qualifications as set out in the person specification (or equivalent experience within the disability sector) you’ll understand the work of the Adult Social Care Division and the importance of promoting independence for service users.

Personal experience or experience of working with people with visual impairment is desirable, as is relevant experience in other health and social care settings, which will also be taken into consideration.

This course requires students to learn to teach people with visual impairment in high-risk situations, such as crossing roads independently, working safely in the kitchen and managing home and personal care. It is therefore a requirement that applicants will already be competent themselves in these daily activities and have the capacity to monitor the safety of those they are learning to teach.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online specifying how you meet the requirements for this apprenticeship role as set out in the person specification and our values.

Please note that due to the high-volume of applications, we are not always able to provide individual feedback to candidates who have not been successfully shortlisted. Accordingly, we reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a sufficient volume of suitable applications, so we encourage you to submit your application at your earliest convenience to avoid disappointment.
