Job role
Chief Executive
Contract Type
Full time

Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire LEP has a bold ambition for the region, and the role of Chief Executive is integral in making this a reality. With a refreshed Board, the LEP has refreshed its ambitions for the region and for itself as an organisation. Not wanting to do things as before, this role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to achieve significant progress for the region, and to advance their own career in doing so.

For someone who loves to innovate, shape and deliver, this role has a lot to offer. The role is one that must focus on partnerships, to shape and craft strategies and policies that are impactful, and to secure funding that will create the conditions for the economy to thrive.

The LEP Chief Executive role is wide-ranging and the post holder will be the senior member of the wider executive support structure of the LEP. A strategic thinker with experience of business and government, with sound judgement, political awareness and strong communications skills, you will provide support to the LEP Executive Board, its Chair and Vice Chairs. You will have credibility with senior decision-makers and a demonstrable track record of success in economic growth.

A flexible and professional approach to working within a busy environment is needed, together with the ability to lead and work alongside the team and our partners in undertaking the work of the LEP. This will include liaising with ministers, civil servants, businesses, key partners, stakeholder organisations and other LEPs.

We are looking to appoint our Chief Executive on an initial 3 year fixed term contract to align with the Chair’s tenure. This will give all parties focus, but also the opportunity to extend beyond this when the longer term picture of LEPs and devolution becomes clearer from Government. In this period of time, we have a lot to achieve and getting it right will provide a platform for this individual to go into any role within regeneration that they chose. If you can help us achieve everything in our vision statement then it will leave the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire region with a flourishing economic profile and a lasting legacy for you to take into your next chapter.

About you

Are you motivated by working with partners to imagine new possibilities? To take blue sky thinking and make it a reality. Are you driven to build an inclusive economy across a large and diverse region, and to create the conditions for economic success? We are seeking someone who can match our ambition, someone who can balance a strategic mind with an eye for delivery.

We are building a new organisation, with a new culture, and we need someone who understands how LEPs operate, how the public sector operates, and how working with partners across the public and private sector can make a difference to the businesses within the region. This role requires a multitasker, someone who can operate within our governance and assurance frameworks, and importantly, someone who understands economic development.
