About Us:

Working as part of Children’s Services will provide a challenging and rewarding career. We have high ambitions for the children and young people of Kensington and Chelsea.  We have formed a bi-borough Children’s Services team with colleagues from Westminster City Council. Our services, which include education, family services and safeguarding, have been rated Outstanding by Ofsted, and our drive to be the best doesn’t stop there.  By working with us, you will have the opportunity to make a difference to young people in one of the world’s most diverse cities.

The Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Worlds End Social Work Team. We are a Locality Social Work team and are one of six across the borough. We work with children, young people and their families aged 0 to 25. We are normally based within Chelsea Old Town Hall alongside another two teams which cover the South of the borough. However, we are currently temporarily based at Kensington Town Hall as part of a centralised duty team covering the borough on a rota due to the current pandemic.

Similar to other parts of RBKC we cover areas of poverty and deprivation along with those of great wealth. Economic difference is matched by a rich cultural, religious and ethnic diversity making for a lively and interesting environment.

We are looking for an experienced social worker with supervision experience, energy and enthusiasm to support the team to deliver a high-quality, relationship based social work service in a responsive changing environment.

The team is established, supportive and committed to delivering an outstanding service. Family and Children’s Services within the Bi-Borough offers a unique systemic, family-based approach to social work and excellent learning and development opportunities. We have a systemic family therapist based within the team who supports systemic social work practice.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

You will have previous experience of delivering high quality statutory social work to children, young people and their families. You will be able to manage complex case work covering all statutory social work and have a good knowledge of the law governing the work. You will provide high quality reflective supervision and leadership to qualified SW staff. You will have excellent communication skills and will support the Team Manager; providing cover in their absence and have certain budget holding responsibility.

We work in partnership with Hampshire County Council (HCC) who deliver many transactional services on our behalf. Although most communications will be from HCC, all selection and appointment decisions will be made by RBKC. Certain services are shared across more than one Council area to nearby neighbouring Authorities. This enhances delivery and reduces costs. Your recruitment information will advise if your remit extends beyond RBKC.

We will primarily contact candidates by e-mail throughout the recruitment process, please monitor your email junk / spam folder as our system generated emails may be allocated to these folders by your email settings.

We engage our staff with a variety of learning types including face-to-face and virtual learning because we want to ensure our staff understand our values and behaviours, grow their skills and develop their careers.
