Social Worker - Special Guardianship Order (SGO) & Connected Person Assessment Team
Chelmsford

£30,906 - £42,254 Salary scale according to skills and experience in line with Social Care Capabilities Framework

About us
Our Special Guardianship Order (SGO) and Connected Person's Assessment Team help vulnerable children in Essex find long-term permanent care through connected persons carers and special guardians. Ever since we were formed in April 2019, we've been very successful at what we do, and now we're looking for more social workers to join us in our growing teams.

About the role
You'll join our supportive, friendly teams and carry out thorough analytical assessments as part of a flexible, manageable caseload. You'll also be closely involved in the development of our service, strengthening our links with Coram BAAF and national SGO development partners as well as delivering training to other team members, connected carers and special guardians. We also offer many opportunities to develop and broaden your own skillset, too.

We are looking for a social worker with:

*A diploma or degree in Social Work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent and registration with Social Work England as a registered Social Worker.
*Experience and a good understanding of work within Children and Families and Fostering services.
*Commitment to children remaining with their extended family when possible.
*Analytical assessment writing skills are essential
*Experience of attending court is preferable.
*Understanding of the impact for carers of neglect/abuse and trauma on children is important.
*Excellent communication skills are essential in order to enable effective work with families, Child Care Teams, Independent Reviewing Officers and fostering teams.
*Excellent record keeping skills are essential
*A commitment to flexible working is essential as many assessments are out of county and/ or with families who have huge demands on their time.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wide operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.

As part of employment with Essex County Council should your role require a DBS check you will be required to register with the DBS update service. The DBS update service ensures all registered DBS certificates are kept up to date and allows authorised parties to view the status of your certificate. This is an annual subscription and you will be responsible for ensuring this is maintained. For further information on the DBS update service please visit: https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service
