Job Details
Working in partnership with Maldon District Council and Essex County Council, Chelmsford City Council is looking to recruit for a role which will involve working closely with our Housing Service and other local agencies to assess housing options, and remove barriers to them, for people who are currently or at risk of sleeping rough, some of whom will have complex needs .
The post is funded through the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) rough sleeper initiative funding. Although the current funding is only in place until March 21, hence the short term contract, further bids for funding will be made to try to ensure that this post continues for future years, as it has in previous years.
The successful candidate will work alongside both Councils’ homelessness teams to asses housing needs on a case-by-case basis through to helping people move on towards independent living.
This is a great opportunity to work closely with people and other agencies who provide housing and support, including local charities, health, social care and the criminal justice system.
Applicants should have experience working with vulnerable people, other agencies and knowledge and understanding of housing and especially the legislation and statutory duties for local housing authorities working with homelessness.
The successful candidate will be based mainly at the Civic Centre in Chelmsford working 37 hours per week but will be required to travel widely in both the Chelmsford and Maldon districts, including regular engagement with clients on the street. The post provides an opportunity to develop existing knowledge and skills, whilst gaining experience of both operational and strategic housing issues in the mid Essex area.
Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment and have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services. The Council's Safer Recruitment process contains pre-employment vetting which includes safeguarding training, obtaining references and ensuring compliance with the Disclosure and Barring Service process.
