Waste and Streets Advisor (permanent vacancy - external)

Street Services is looking for someone to join their team of Waste and Streets Advisors who are responsible for engaging with the local community about the Royal Borough’s waste, recycling and street-scene services.  Working closely with operational teams and other service areas, you will help to increase the amount of recycling generated in the borough and encourage positive behaviour change when it comes to waste.

The ideal candidate will have a flexible approach and great interpersonal skills.

You will have a range of duties including:

  • Advising members of the public in person, in writing and over the phone.
  • Solving problems around bin eligibility, bin provision and dealing effectively with contamination issues.
  • Taking part in engagement activities to promote recycling, waste prevention and minimisation.
  • Supporting participation schemes such as Royal Greenwich’s Environment Champions and Junior Environment Champions.
  • Assisting with the delivery of projects and communication campaigns.
  • Carrying out surveys to assess street cleanliness and report back findings.
  • Assessing the waste requirements for houses of multiple occupancy (HMOs) as part of the licencing arrangements.
  • Use all IT systems and packages available and to manage electronic work queues.

You will work a 35-hour week, but flexibility is essential as you will be required to occasionally work evenings and weekends. This post will involve a mixture of working from home, at our office in Abbey Wood and out on site.

You must have a full and clean manual UK driving licence.

During this time, our priority for all recruitment activity is to make sure our applicants, hiring departments and new starters are informed, safe and supported. If you are shortlisted and invited to interview, video-call interviews will be held for this post.  We will ensure that you are provided with full information about the interview arrangements and, if required, will provide support to access the interview.

The assessment will also include a presentation that you will prepare in advance. This will be delivered at the interview.

Application deadline: 11th October 2020.

If you want to discuss the role, please contact Sami McGinlay, Community Engagement & Casework Co-ordinator, via email: sami.mcginlay@royalgreenwich.gov.uk.
