The Structures team are part of the Highways Asset Management business unit who  inspect, repair and maintain KCC highways to keep them safe and provide the best highway service to Kent’s residents, visitors and businesses, whilst co-ordinating activities on the highway to minimise disruption to road users and facilitate utility services. They do this by balancing asset management principles, local operational needs and available resource.

We are looking to recruit a Senior Structures Engineer to provide engineering support for maintenance of highway structures, liaising and working closely across KCC. The post holder will provide project management, technical design and advice, along with associated financial control and administrative tasks.

This full-time role will be primarily based in KCC’s Ashford Henwood depot but travel within Kent will be expected to meet the demands of the job.

If you have the ability to succeed in this role and are able to prioritise competing demands and objectives, coupled with diplomacy and experience of managing projects in a complex environment, you could be the person we are looking for.

In return we offer a generous pension, extensive training opportunities and a flexible approach to working.

In the current climate staff are working from home or in reduced occupancy and Covid-assessed offices. Computers are provided to facilitate the safest environment possible whilst ensuring the continuation of the business needs.

Company

In East Kent, tourism is a major industry and the attractions include world famous Canterbury and seaside resorts like Broadstairs and Margate. The landscape is ideal for cycling, horse riding and walking, there are many footpaths and bridleways including the North Downs Way. The county thrives on its reputation as the Gateway to Europe and its use as the United Kingdom's principal access to the continent through ports like Dover, Folkestone, Ramsgate, Dartford and Sheerness is increasing rapidly. Major development has taken place on the coast and inland associated with the construction of the Channel Tunnel. One of the largest business parks in Europe is being developed jointly with American developer Rouse (Kent), and is known as Kings Hill. Kent has also traditionally been regarded as the Garden of England, deriving from the quality of its agriculture and in particular the intensive fruit, vegetable and hop production. Traditional Kentish industries like papermaking and cement manufacture are located in North and Mid-Kent, particularly along the banks of the Rivers Thames and Medway. The ease of access to neighbouring London and the lure of a decent house in pleasant surroundings have attracted many new residents from the capital.
