We have an exciting opportunity available for a manager with an expert knowledge of waste prevention and a collaborative approach, to lead North London Waste Authority’s (NLWA) award winning waste prevention behaviour change programme.  The role comes with a budget responsibility of c£0.5 million and a team of five who work alongside the Communications Manager and team to implement the Authority’s residual waste reduction plan to encourage a reduction in residual waste in north London.

The post-holder will be responsible for working with other senior managers in NLWA to develop the residual waste reduction plan and also needs to work with each of the seven north London boroughs at various levels to understand their detailed strategies and their application. You will also engage in the development of the next north London joint waste strategy for NLWA and the seven constituent boroughs as it is developed.

In this role you will be responsible for devising a rolling programme of six-monthly waste prevention plans in partnership with the constituent borough councils and other stakeholders and reporting progress to Members throughout the year. You will be responsible for preparing business cases and for devising proposals, tendering for and appointing contractors for delivering various elements of the programme. This also includes managing contractors in accordance with agreed timescales and budgets. In addition you will need to review and develop performance monitoring mechanisms for the programme and be able to represent NLWA at waste prevention events. 

The right individual will have a degree level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent work-based achievements. You will have experience of delivering a range of behavioural change programmes, preferably in waste prevention or the wider environmental field, to varied audiences, as well as experience and understanding of the communications opportunities offered by social media in delivering behavioural change.

A detailed knowledge of all aspects of waste management at both a national and regional level is essential as well as expert knowledge of waste prevention. You must also have proven project management skills and the ability to manage a small team.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to build relationships with different people is a MUST.
