Relief Minibus Driver
The Integrated Passenger Transport Operations Team is responsible for the safe and efficient use of over eighty minibuses to transport people in North Yorkshire. The team comprises approximately 250 drivers and passenger assistants that operate at locations throughout North Yorkshire.
The team delivers approximately 250,000 passenger journeys per year including 20,000 wheelchair user journeys. The transport provided enables people to access schools, day centres, learning opportunities, supported employment and other meaningful activities in our community. We also undertake registered local bus services and community transport journeys.
We are looking for a caring, flexible and committed person to help us provide this transport.
The role usually involves driving an accessible minibus carefully and courteously with road safety paramount. Sometimes, the vehicle may be a car or a people carrier. On social care or school routes you will usually work with a passenger assistant. On other routes you will normally work alone. You will be responsible for the safety of passengers during these journeys and will ensure that the passengers board and alight safely as well as ensuring that any safety equipment is used correctly. Full training in the use of all safety equipment will be provided.
You will need good communication skills as you will liaise daily with the passengers, carers and establishment staff.
We have opportunities to contribute to the team in a relief role in Harrogate.
This is a relief post and there are no guaranteed hours. You will be an important part of the team and will be asked to work to support our service during periods of leave and other absence, normally on a split shift basis.
All drivers require a D1 driving licence entitlement.
We offer a comprehensive training package including Minibus Driver Awareness Training, Basic First Aid and Managing Challenging Behaviour.
This post involves access to vulnerable service users and if you were offered the position, you will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) background check.
To discuss the role please contact Christopher Jones on 01609 798071 or Christopher.Jones@northyorks.gov.uk.
