Job Details
City of York Council have a great opportunity for a Projects Officer to join our busy Traffic Team.
The team’s duties are wide ranging, focusing on network management and highway regulation, and including Traffic Regulation Orders, traffic signs, parking, highway licensing, as well as highway obstruction and encroachment issues.
Specific tasks and projects are allocated between team members and there is a significant amount of reactive work to deal with urgent issues and requests which means that the workload is varied.
The role involves a significant level of contact, with residents, customers, businesses, and other Council departments so you will need good communications skills for face to face meetings, phone conversations and in writing, to prepare reports and responses to queries and requests.
You will be able to benefit from the wider team’s experience, working closely with other team members, to gather the data and information required to develop traffic management options, identify the pros and cons of these options, present them in reports to elected councillors and stakeholders, and make officer recommendations.
As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.
The Council is highly committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
